Pregnancy-Related Arrhythmias, Management and Nursing/Midwifery Approach
During the time of pregnancy, the hormonal and hemodynamic changes of women, increase in existence of cardiac arrhythmias. Cardiac arrhythmias in pregnancy can cause morbidity or mortality in the health of both the mother and the fetus. Maternal arrhythmias can occur in isolation or in the setting of underlying structural heart disease. Optimal management of maternal cardiac arrhythmias includes identification of the specific arrhythmia, diagnosis of comorbid conditions, and appropriate intervention. In general, management of maternal cardiac arrhythmias is similar to that of the general population.In pregnant women with cardiac arrhythmia, the health of both mother and fetus can be protected by a qualified and appropriate treatment by healthcare team members. For this reason, management of pregnancy-related arrhythmias has great importance. This review article is planned to contribute to the management of arrhythmias during pregnancy and to the nursing/midwifery approach.
